Founded in 2020.

Humanloop was founded in 2020 by Raza Habib, Jordan Burgess, and Peter Hayes. The company’s public materials and investor profiles describe it as originating from research and product work around AI/ML tooling.

Humanloop raised a $2.6 million seed round led by Index Ventures, with participation from Y Combinator, LocalGlobe, and Albion. Reporting at the time said the funding supported the company’s AI software and annotation product development.

Humanloop announced Programmatic, described as a new product that largely automates the labeling of large datasets. The launch marked an important step in the company’s evolution from AI labeling into broader AI engineering tooling.

Humanloop announced general availability, opening the platform to all enterprises building AI products with LLMs. The company said the platform had evolved into a full evals, observability, and prompt-management system.

Humanloop announced that the Humanloop team was joining Anthropic and that it would sunset the Humanloop platform. Public reporting described the move as Anthropic acquiring or acqui-hiring the team, though the company’s own statement used the wording “joining Anthropic.”
